HVAC Control Illumination Lights Inoperative

  1. Disconnect A/C-heater control panel connectors C1 on manual A/C or C2 on automatic A/C. On manual A/C system, connect test light between A/C C1 connector terminals No. 2 (Black/Orange wire) and No. 7 (Orange wire). See Figure . On automatic A/C system, connect test light between A/C C1 connector terminal No. 8 (Black wire) and Automatic Zone Control (AZC) module C2 connector terminal No. 6 (Orange wire). See Figure and Figure . Turn on instrument panel lights. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light is illuminated, replace defective A/C-heater control panel assembly. See appropriate MANUAL or AUTOMATIC A/C-HEATER SYSTEMS article in AIR CONDITIONING & HEATING. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  2. Turn ignition off. On manual systems, using DVOM, measure resistance between A/C-heater control panel C1 connector terminal No. 2 (Black/Orange wire) and ground. On automatic systems, using DVOM, measure resistance between AZC module C1 connector terminal No. 8 (Black wire) and ground. On all models, if resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Black or Black/Orange wire between A/C-heater control panel and ground. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  3. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) C1 connector. See Figure . On manual systems, using DVOM, measure resistance of Orange wire between A/C-heater control panel C1 connector terminal No. 7 and BCM C1 connector terminal No. 10. On automatic systems, using DVOM, measure resistance of Orange wire between AZC module C2 connector terminal No. 6 and BCM C1 connector terminal No. 10. See Figure . On all models, if resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Orange wire. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  4. Replace BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
