All Indicators Inoperative

NOTE: Ensure communication can be established with Mechanical Instrument Cluster (MIC), Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and Body Control Module (BCM) before performing test procedure.
  1. Turn signal, part time 4WD and Red brake warning indicators are hard wired indicators. Remaining indicators are PCI bus driven. Cycle ignition switch off, then on. If PCI bus driven indicator lights do not illuminate, go to next step. If PCI bus driven indicator lights illuminate, system is operating properly. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  2. Remove and inspect junction block fuse No. 17. If fuse is not blown, go to step  4 . If fuse is blown, turn ignition off and replace junction block fuse No. 17. Turn ignition on. If new fuse blows after turning ignition on, go to next step. If new fuse does not blow after turning ignition on, test is complete.
  3. Turn ignition off. Remove junction block fuse No. 17. Disconnect MIC connector. Using DVOM, measure resistance between MIC connector terminal No. 6 (Pink/Red wire) and ground. If resistance is less than 100 ohms, repair short to ground in Pink/Red wire between instrument cluster and junction block. If resistance is greater than 100 ohms, replace instrument cluster circuit board. See appropriate INSTRUMENT PANELS article. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  4. Install fuse No. 17. Turn ignition off. Disconnect MIC connector. Turn ignition on. Using DVOM, measure voltage between ground and MIC connector terminal No. 6 (Pink/Red wire). See Figure . If voltage is 10.5 volts or greater, go to next step. If voltage is less than 10.5 volts, repair open in Pink/Red wire between MIC and junction block. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  5. Using DVOM, measure resistance between ground and MIC connector terminals No. 9 (Black wire) and No. 11 (Black/Orange wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms for both circuits, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater on either circuit, repair open in suspect ground circuit. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  6. Turn ignition on. Connect test light between ground and MIC connector terminal No. 7 (Dark Blue/White wire). If test light illuminates brightly, go to next step. If test light does not illuminates brightly, repair open in Dark Blue/White wire. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  7. Replace instrument cluster printed circuit board. See appropriate INSTRUMENT PANELS article. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
