Rear Wiper Not Working At All

  1. Ensure all components are connected. Ensure rear liftgate and flip-up glass are properly closed and aligned. Using scan tool, select INPUT/OUTPUT under BODY CONTROL MODULE. Read LIFTGLASS SW status. If scan tool displays LIFTGATE SW: CLOSED, go to next step. If scan tool does not display LIFTGLASS SW: CLOSED, go to step  7.
  2. Turn ignition off. Remove liftgate trim panel. Disconnect rear liftgate flip-up glass ajar switch connector. See Figure. Read LIFTGLASS SW status. If scan tool displays LIFTGATE SW: CLOSED, go to next step. If scan tool does not display LIFTGLASS SW: CLOSED, replace rear liftgate flip-up glass ajar switch. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  3. Disconnect rear wiper motor connector. Read LIFTGLASS SW status. If scan tool displays LIFTGATE SW: CLOSED, go to next step. If scan tool does not display LIFTGLASS SW: CLOSED, replace rear wiper motor. See appropriate WIPER/WASHER SYSTEMS article. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  4. Disconnect junction block connector C1. See Figure. Using DVOM, measure resistance between ground and junction block connector C1 terminal No. 24 (Violet/Yellow wire). See Figure. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, go to next step. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Violet/Yellow wire. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  5. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) from rear of junction block. See Figure. Using DVOM, measure resistance between BCM junction block connector terminal No. 8 and ground. See Figure. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace junction block. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  6. Replace BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  7. Turn ignition off. Inspect junction block fuse No. 29 (10-amp). If fuse is blown, go to next step. If fuse is okay, go to step  9.
  8. Disconnect right multifunction switch connector. Replace fuse No. 29. Turn ignition on. Turn ignition off and reinspect fuse No. 29. If fuse is blown, check for short to ground in Brown/Pink wire between right multifunction switch and junction block. If circuit is okay, replace junction block. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS. If fuse is okay, check for short to ground in another circuit related to right multifunction switch. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  9. Disconnect right multifunction switch connector. Turn ignition on. Using DVOM, measure voltage between ground and right multifunction switch connector terminal No. 1 (Brown/Pink wire). See Figure. If voltage is greater than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open in Brown/Pink wire. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  10. Remove liftgate trim panel. Disconnect rear wiper motor connector. Using DVOM, measure resistance between rear wiper motor connector terminal No. 1 (Black wire) and ground. See Fig 1. If resistance is less than 10 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 10 ohms, repair open in Black wire between rear wiper motor and ground. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  11. Using DVOM, measure voltage between rear wiper motor connector terminal No. 5 (Pink wire) and ground. If voltage is greater than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is less than 10 volts, check for open fuse No. 8 (15-amp) located in junction block. If fuse is okay, repair open in Pink wire between wiper motor and junction block. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  12. Connect rear wiper motor connector. Ensure lift gate and lift gate flip-up glass are closed. Disconnect right multifunction switch connector. Turn ignition on. Connect a fused jumper between right multifunction switch connector terminals No. 1 (Brown/Pink wire) and No. 5 (Brown/Light Green wire). If rear wiper motor runs, replace right multifunction switch. See appropriate STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES article. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS. If rear wiper motor does not turn on, replace rear wiper motor. See appropriate WIPER/WASHER SYSTEMS article. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
