Stall Speed Test Procedure
- Ensure transmission fluid level is correct and transmission is at normal operating temperature.
- Install tachometer. Apply parking brake and block wheels. Apply and hold service brake.
- On 4WD models, shift transfer case into 2H (2WD high position). On all models, start engine. Shift transmission into "D" (Drive) position. Fully depress throttle to Wide Open Throttle (WOT) and note maximum engine RPM (torque converter stall speed).
- DO NOT maintain WOT for more than 4 seconds. Torque converter stall speed should be 2100-2400 RPM in "D" (Drive).
- Release throttle and shift transmission into Neutral. Allow transmission fluid to cool for 20-30 seconds with engine speed at 1000 RPM.
- Shift transmission into Reverse. Fully depress throttle to WOT and note maximum engine RPM (torque converter stall speed). Torque converter stall speed should be 2100-2400 RPM in Reverse.
NOTE:
Use the following symptoms for trouble shooting results of torque converter stall speed test.
