Rolling Code Failure

  1. Using scan tool, select ENGINE, then read DTCs. If scan tool displays any PCM related DTCs, see appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If scan tool does not display any PCM related DTCs, go to next step.
  2. Ensure battery is fully charged. Using scan tool, read and record SKIM DTCs. Erase SKIM DTCs. Turn ignition off, then back to RUN position. After 3 minutes, read SKIM DTCs. If only ROLLING CODE FAILURE fault message is currently displayed or was previously recorded, go to next step. If VIN MISMATCH with or without EEPROM FAILURE fault message is displayed, test is complete.
  3. Using scan tool, erase SKIM DTCs. Select THEFT ALARM, then SKIM. If scan tool displays NO RESPONSE, go to appropriate VEHICLE COMMUNICATIONS test in VEHICLE COMMUNICATIONS article. If scan tool does not display NO RESPONSE, go to next step.
  4. Using scan tool, select BODY, then BODY COMPUTER. Select SYSTEM TEST, then PCM MONITOR. If scan tool displays PCM ACTIVE ON THE BUS, go to next step. If scan tool does not display PCM ACTIVE ON THE BUS, see appropriate VEHICLE COMMUNICATIONS article.
  5. Using scan tool, select ENGINE, then read DTCs. If scan tool displays any PCM related DTCs, see appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If scan tool does not display any PCM related DTCs, replace SKIM. Perform SKIM INITIALIZATION PROCEDURE  .
  6. Using scan tool, erase SKIM DTCs. Turn ignition off and wait 10 seconds. Start engine 20 times. Using scan tool, read SKIM DTCs. If any SKIM DTCs are displayed, go to next step. If no fault message are currently displayed, test is complete.
  7. Using scan tool, erase SKIM DTCs. Select THEFT ALARM, then SKIM. If scan tool displays NO RESPONSE, go to appropriate VEHICLE COMMUNICATIONS test in VEHICLE COMMUNICATIONS article. If scan tool does not display NO RESPONSE, go to next step.
  8. Using scan tool, select BODY, then BODY COMPUTER. Select SYSTEM TEST, then PCM MONITOR. If scan tool displays PCM ACTIVE ON THE BUS, go to next step. If scan tool does not display PCM ACTIVE ON THE BUS, see appropriate VEHICLE COMMUNICATIONS article.
  9. Using scan tool, select ENGINE, then read DTCs. If scan tool displays any PCM related DTCs, see appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If scan tool does not display any PCM related DTCs, replace SKIM. Perform SKIM INITIALIZATION PROCEDURE  .
