Transponder Communication Failure

  1. Ensure battery is fully charged. Using scan tool, read and record SKIM DTCs. Erase SKIM DTCs. Turn ignition off, then back to RUN position. After 3 minutes, read SKIM DTCs. If TRANSPONDER COMMUNICATION FAILURE fault message is currently displayed or was previously recorded, go to next step. If TRANSPONDER COMMUNICATION FAILURE fault message is not displayed, go to step  3 .
  2. Using scan tool, select THEFT ALARM, then SKIM. Select MISCELLANEOUS, then SKIM KEY TEST. Follow scan tool instructions. Test key in sentry key tester. If key passes, replace SKIM. Perform SKIM INITIALIZATION PROCEDURE  . If key does not pass, erase SKIM DTCs. Replace and program new key. See PROGRAMMING BLANK SMART KEY USING SCAN TOOL  .
  3. Start engine several times using each of vehicle's keys. Using scan tool, read SKIM DTCs. If TRANSPONDER fault message is displayed, replace SKIM. Perform SKIM INITIALIZATION PROCEDURE  . If TRANSPONDER fault message is not displayed, test is complete.
