Description & Operation
The shift interlock system consists of a shift interlock cable/solenoid assembly (connected between ignition switch and floor shifter). See Fig 1 . A brakelight switch and PCM/TCM sense circuits are used to control shift interlock solenoid. With ignition switch in LOCK or ACC position, the gear selector is locked in Park. With ignition switch in RUN position, the gear selector is locked in Park until the brake pedal is depressed. Depressing the brake pedal de-energizes shift interlock solenoid and allows gear selector to move to any position. The shift interlock system also prevents the ignition switch from being turned to LOCK or ACC position unless gear selector is returned to Park.
