Input Speed (Is) Sensor

The IS sensor is mounted on left side of transmission case, next to torque converter housing. The IS sensor is an input device consisting of a pulse ring and speed sensor. IS sensor pulse ring is mounted on overdrive planetary and clutch assembly. Input signal is delivered from IS sensor to TCM with each revolution of overdrive planetary. Since overdrive planetary does not turn in 4th gear, IS sensor has no output in 4th gear. The TCM uses input signal to detect transmission faults (DTCs P0751, P0756 and P0740).
