Test NTC-26A: Checking A/C System
NOTE:
This test applies to AB, TJ, XJ and ZJ bodies only. For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . For component location and wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS article.
- If A/C CLUTCH RELAY DTC is present, perform TEST NTC-16A: CHECKING BRAKE SWITCH . If DTC is not present, use scan tool to monitor A/C SELECT state. Turn A/C switch on and off several times. If A/C SELECT state does not change, repair open A/C select circuit (Dark Blue/Orange wire) and perform TEST VER-2A: ROAD TEST VERIFICATION . If A/C SELECT state changes, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, monitor A/C REQUEST state. Turn A/C fan to FULL position. If A/C REQUEST state does not change, go to step 9) . If A/C REQUEST state changes, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, actuate A/C clutch relay. If A/C clutch actuates, A/C clutch is operating properly at this time. Test is complete. If A/C clutch does not actuate, go to next step.
- Disconnect A/C clutch connector. Inspect connector and terminals for damage. Repair connector and terminals as necessary and perform TEST VER-2A: ROAD TEST VERIFICATION . If connector and terminals are okay, ensure scan tool is still actuating A/C clutch relay and go to next step.
- On all bodies except AB body, go to next step. On AB body, connect a 12-volt test light across A/C clutch connector terminals. If test light blinks, replace A/C clutch coil and perform TEST VER-2A: ROAD TEST VERIFICATION . If test light does not blink, perform TEST NTC-26B: CHECKING A/C SYSTEM .
- Using an external voltmeter, check voltage on A/C clutch connector, A/C clutch relay output circuit (Dark Blue/Black wire). If voltage pulsates, replace A/C clutch coil and perform TEST VER-2A: ROAD TEST VERIFICATION . If voltage does not pulsate, go to next step.
- Remove A/C clutch relay. Check voltage on A/C clutch relay connector, fused B+ circuit (Red/Gray wire on TJ and ZJ bodies; Red/Black wire on XJ body). If voltage is 11 volts or less, repair open fused B+ circuit and perform TEST VER-2A: ROAD TEST VERIFICATION . If voltage is more than 11 volts, go to next step.
- Using an external ohmmeter, check resistance of A/C clutch relay output circuit (Dark Blue/Black wire on TJ and XJ bodies; Dark Blue/Yellow wire on ZJ body) between A/C clutch and A/C clutch relay connectors. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open A/C clutch relay output circuit and perform TEST VER-2A: ROAD TEST VERIFICATION . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace A/C clutch relay and perform TEST VER-2A: ROAD TEST VERIFICATION .
- Ensure A/C system is properly charged. Recharge system as necessary and perform TEST VER-2A: ROAD TEST VERIFICATION . If A/C system is properly charged, go to next step.
- On all bodies, except AB body, go to next step. On AB body, check fin sensing cycling clutch switch operation. See MANUAL A/C-HEATER SYSTEMS
RAM VAN/WAGON article in appropriate lemon-25® AIR CONDITIONING & HEATING SERVICE & REPAIR manual. Replace fin sensing cycling clutch switch as necessary and perform TEST VER-2A: ROAD TEST VERIFICATION . If fin sensing cycling clutch switch is okay, go to next step. - Check high pressure cut-off switch. See MANUAL A/C-HEATER SYSTEMS
RAM VAN/WAGON article in appropriate lemon-25® AIR CONDITIONING & HEATING SERVICE & REPAIR manual. Replace high pressure cut-off switch as necessary and perform TEST VER-2A: ROAD TEST VERIFICATION . If high pressure cutoff switch is okay, go to next step. - Check low pressure cut-off switch. See MANUAL A/C-HEATER SYSTEMS
RAM VAN/WAGON article in appropriate lemon-25® AIR CONDITIONING & HEATING SERVICE & REPAIR manual. Replace low pressure cut-off switch as necessary and perform TEST VER-2A: ROAD TEST VERIFICATION . If low pressure cutoff switch is okay, repair open A/C request circuit (Dark Blue/Orange wire) and perform TEST VER-2A: ROAD TEST VERIFICATION .
