VTSS Test 6A - Repairing Headlight & Park Light Relay Circuits

NOTE: Perform VTSS TEST 1A  before proceeding with this test. For connector terminal identification, refer to CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For wiring diagrams, refer to WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Refer to ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM article. After each repair, perform TEST VER-2A  .
CAUTION: Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting any module connector. Ensure all connectors are clean and tight.
  1. If headlight and park lights do not operate properly from headlight switch, repair as required. If headlight and park lights operate properly from headlight switch, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Leave key in ignition. Using scan tool, select BODY COMPUTER, then INPUT/OUTPUT. Read key-in ignition switch status. If scan tool does not display KEY-IN IGNITION SW: CLOSED, go to POWER DOOR LOCK TEST 8A  . If scan tool displays KEY-IN IGNITION SW: CLOSED, go to next step.
  3. Using scan tool, actuate park light relay. If park lights do not flash, go to VTSS TEST 6B  . If park lights flash, go to next step.
  4. Using scan tool, actuate headlight relay. If headlights flash, replace Body Control Module (BCM). See Figure in CHIME TEST 3A. If headlights do not flash, go to next step.
  5. Disconnect BCM White 24-pin connector. Connect a jumper wire between terminals No. 12 (Black/Orange wire) and No. 24 (Black wire) on BCM White 24-pin connector. If headlights illuminate, replace BCM. If headlights do not illuminate, go to next step.
  6. Disconnect jumper wire. Reconnect BCM connector. Remove headlight relay. Headlight relay is located in junction block, behind right kick panel. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, measure voltage at terminal No. 30 (Red/Light Blue wire) on headlight relay socket. See Fig 1 . If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open in Red/Light Blue wire. If voltage is 10 volts or more, go to next step.
  7. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, measure voltage at terminal No. 86 (Red/Light Blue wire) on headlight relay socket. If voltage is less than 10 volts, replace junction block. If voltage is 10 volts or more, go to next step.
  8. Turn headlights on from headlight switch. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, measure voltage at terminal No. 87 (Tan/Black wire) on headlight relay socket. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open in Tan/Black wire. If voltage is 10 volts or more, go to next step.
  9. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, measure resistance at terminal No. 85 (Black/Orange wire) on headlight relay socket. Using scan tool, actuate headlight relay. If resistance drops to less than 30 ohms when headlight relay is actuated, replace headlight relay. If resistance does not drop to less than 30 ohms when headlight relay is actuated, go to next step.
  10. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, backprobe terminal No. 12 (Black/Orange wire) on Body Control Module (BCM) White 24-pin connector. Using scan tool, actuate headlight relay. If resistance does not drop to less than 30 ohms when headlight relay is actuated, replace BCM. If resistance drops to less than 30 ohms when headlight relay is actuated, repair open in Black/Orange wire.
