Preliminary Inspection

  1. Ensure shift cable and throttle cable are properly adjusted and no binding is present. If adjustment is required, see appropriate TRANSMISSION SERVICING - A/T article in AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SERVICING section.
  2. Check engine throttle operation. Fully depress accelerator and ensure throttle plate fully opens. Adjust cable or linkage if throttle plate does not fully open.
  3. Ensure transmission fluid level is correct with transmission at normal operating temperature. If additional fluid is required, use ATF.
NOTE: Transmission Range (TR) sensor may also be known as Park/Neutral Position (PNP) switch.
  4. Ensure engine will start with gearshift lever in "P" or "N" positions only. If engine starts in gear, adjust Transmission Range (TR) sensor. See TRANSMISSION RANGE (TR) SENSOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  5. Check Throttle Position (TP) sensor adjustment and operation. Adjust if necessary. See TESTING in AISIN WARNER 4 ELECTRONIC CONTROLS article.
