Test TC-115A - Power Steering Switch Failure
NOTE:
After each repair, perform TEST VER-2A .
NOTE:

- Using scan tool, read DTCs. If scan tool displays POWER STEERING SWITCH FAILURE, go to step 6). If scan tool does not display POWER STEERING SWITCH FAILURE, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, monitor Power Steering (P/S) switch state. Turn steering wheel to extreme left and right. If P/S switch state does not change, go to step 6). If P/S switch state changes, go to next step.
- Inspect all related wiring and connectors for damage. Repair wiring and connectors as necessary and perform TEST VER-2A. If connectors and terminals are okay, go to next step.
- Wiggle wiring harness and connector going to P/S switch while monitoring P/S switch state. If P/S switch state changes while wiggling wiring harness and connector, repair wiring harness and connector as necessary and perform TEST VER-2A . If P/S switch state does not change, go to next step.
- Condition required to set DTC is not is not present at this time. POWER STEERING SWITCH FAILURE DTC sets with vehicle at more than 40 MPH for more than 30 seconds and P/S switch remains open. Possible causes are: open P/S switch, defective PCM or defective connector or wires. Test is complete. Perform TEST VER-2A.
- Disconnect Power Steering (P/S) switch connector. Inspect connector and terminals for damage. Repair connector and terminals as necessary and perform TEST VER-2A. If connector and terminals are okay, go to next step.
- Connect a jumper wire to P/S switch connector, sense circuit (Dark Blue/Orange wire). Using scan tool, read P/S switch state. While observing scan tool, touch other end of jumper wire to engine ground 5 times. If P/S switch state changes from ON to OFF, go to step 11). If P/S switch state does not change from ON to OFF, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM) connectors. Inspect connectors and terminals for damage. Repair connectors and terminals as necessary and perform TEST VER-2A . If connectors and terminals are okay, go to next step.
- Using an external ohmmeter, check resistance of P/S switch connector, sense circuit (Dark Blue/Orange wire) between P/S switch connector and PCM Black connector. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open sense circuit and perform TEST VER-2A. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step.
- Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, check resistance of P/S switch connector, sense circuit (Dark Blue/Orange wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in sense circuit and perform TEST VER-2A . If resistance is 5 ohms or more, replace PCM and perform TEST VER-2A.
- Using scan tool ohmmeter mode, check resistance of P/S switch connector, ground circuit (Black/Tan wire). If resistance 5 ohms or more, repair open ground circuit, perform TEST VER-2A . If resistance less than 5 ohms, replace P/S switch, perform TEST VER-2A.
