Test NTC-20A - Checking Wait-To-Start Lamp

NOTE: This test only applies to problems with WAIT-TO-START lamp.
NOTE: For connector terminal identification, refer to CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS article in this section.
  1. While observing WAIT-TO-START lamp, turn ignition on. If WAIT-TO-START lamp does not come on, go to step 3). If lamp comes on then turns off, system is operating normally. Test passed. If lamp comes on and stays on, turn ignition off and go to next step.
  2. Disconnect PCM White connector. While observing WAIT-TO-START lamp, turn ignition on. If WAIT-TO-START lamp comes on, repair short to ground in WAIT-TO-START lamp driver circuit (Orange/Black wire) and perform TEST VER-2A . If WAIT-TO-START lamp does not come on, replace PCM and perform TEST VER-2A.
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM) connectors. Inspect connectors and terminals for damage. Repair connectors and terminals as necessary and perform TEST VER-2A. If connectors and terminals are okay, go to next step.
  4. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, check voltage on PCM White connector, WAIT-TO-START lamp driver circuit (Orange/Black wire). If voltage is more than 10 volts, replace PCM and perform TEST VER-2A . If voltage is 10 volts or less, go to next step.
  5. Disconnect WAIT-TO-START lamp connector. Inspect connector and terminals for damage. Repair connector and terminals as necessary and perform TEST VER-2A. If connector and terminals are okay, go to next step.
  6. Inspect WAIT-TO-START lamp bulb. If bulb is burned-out, replace bulb and perform TEST VER-2A . If bulb is okay, reinstall bulb and go to next step.
  7. Backprobe message center connector, fused ignition switch output circuit (Light Green/Yellow wire). If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair open fused ignition switch output circuit and perform TEST VER-2A. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step.
  8. Connect a jumper wire between message center connector, WAIT-TO-START lamp driver circuit (Orange/Black wire) and engine ground. If WAIT-TO-START lamp comes on, repair open WAIT-TO-START lamp driver circuit and perform TEST VER-2A . If WAIT-TO-START lamp does not come on, replace message center printed circuit assembly and perform TEST VER-2A.
