Test NTC-6A - Checking Map Sensor Calibration

NOTE: Perform TEST NTC-1A  before proceeding with this test. For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  at beginning of article. For wiring diagrams, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  at the end of this article. Perform TEST VER-2A  after each repair.
  1. Turn engine off. Using a vacuum tee, install a vacuum gauge in MAP sensor vacuum hose. Start engine and let idle. If engine will not idle, maintain a constant RPM above idle. Using scan tool, read MAP value. If reading is within one in. Hg of vacuum gauge reading, MAP sensor is functioning properly. Test is complete. If reading is not within one in. Hg of vacuum gauge reading, go to next step.
  2. Turn engine off. Disconnect vacuum gauge. Connect a vacuum pump to MAP sensor. Apply 5 in. Hg of vacuum to MAP sensor. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, read and record MAP sensor voltage. Increase vacuum to 20 in. Hg. Using scan tool, read and record MAP sensor voltage. Subtract voltage recorded at 20 in. Hg reading from voltage at 5 in. Hg reading. If difference in voltage is 2.3-2.9 volts, repair restriction in MAP sensor vacuum hose. If difference in voltage is not 2.3-2.9 volts, replace MAP sensor.
