Windshield Wiper System Test

  1. Remove circuit breaker from fuse block module. Turn ignition to ACCESSORY or ON position. Measure voltage at battery side of circuit breaker cavity. If battery voltage is not read, repair wiring from ignition switch. Measure resistance across circuit breaker terminals. If meter reads any resistance, replace circuit breaker.
  2. Unplug wiper motor side of wiring harness connector (Gray) from wiper (multifunction) switch side of wiring harness connector (Black), or intermittent wiper module (if equipped) at base of steering column. Turn ignition switch to ACCESSORY or ON position.
  3. Measure voltage at unplugged wiper motor side of wiring harness connector (Gray) terminal "D". If meter does not read battery voltage, repair wiring from circuit breaker.
  4. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Measure resistance from unplugged wiper motor side of wiring harness connector (Gray) terminal "G" to ground. If meter reads more than zero ohms, repair wiring to ground.
  5. With ignition switch still in OFF position, backprobe wiring harness connector at wiper motor. See Fig 1 . Measure resistance from terminal "E" of wiper motor side of connector to ground. If meter reads more than zero ohms, repair wiring to ground.
CAUTION: DO NOT  move wiper switch to DELAY with intermittent wiper module removed from circuit. If switch is moved to DELAY position during the next step, switch will be damaged.
  6. Test wiper operation in LOW and HIGH speed modes. Test washer operation. If these modes were inoperative, but are okay now, replace intermittent wipe module. If no change, reinstall intermittent wipe module and go to next step.
  7. Perform WIPER/WASHER SWITCH TEST. See WIPER/WASHER SWITCH TEST. If switch tests okay, go to next step. If switch does not test okay, replace switch and go to step 12).
  8. Turn ignition switch to ACCESSORY or ON position. Position wiper switch as indicated while back probing wiper switch side of wiring harness connector (Black).
  9. With wiper switch in LOW or MIST position and washer switch depressed, measure voltage at connector terminal "E". If meter does not read battery voltage, replace switch.
  10. With wiper switch in HIGH position, measure voltage at connector terminal "C". If meter does not read battery voltage, replace switch
  11. With wiper switch in LOW or HIGH position, measure voltage at connector terminal "F", then move wiper switch to OFF. Meter should read battery voltage until wipers park, then zero volts. If okay, go to next step. If not okay, check wiring to wiper motor and then go to next step.
  12. Turn ignition switch to ACCESSORY or ON position. Position wiper switch as indicated while back probing motor connector as indicated.
  13. With wiper switch in any position, measure voltage at terminal"B". If voltmeter does not read battery voltage, repair wiring from circuitbreaker.
  14. With wiper switch in LOW position, measure voltage at terminal "A". If meter reads battery voltage but wipers do not operate, replace wiper motor. If meter shows no voltage, repair wiring from switch or intermittent wipe module connector.
  15. With wiper switch in HIGH position, measure voltage at terminal "H". If meter reads battery voltage but wipers do not operate, replace wiper motor. If meter shows no voltage, repair wiring from switch or intermittent wipe module connector.
  16. With wiper switch in LOW or HIGH position, voltmeter connected to terminal "D", turn wiper switch to OFF position and observe meter. Meter should read battery voltage when switch goes to OFF and zero volts when wipers park. If battery voltage is present but wipers fail to park, or if no voltage is present, replace wiper motor.
