Test 86D - Shorted Right (R) Channel

CAUTION: Always turn ignition off prior to disconnecting any module connector.
NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  in this article. For appropriate wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  section at the end of this article. Perform TEST VER-1B  after each repair.
NOTE: Radio must remain on during this test.
  1. Turn radio on. Disconnect Right Rear (RR) speaker connector. If sound is restored to R channel when RR speaker connector is disconnected, replace RR speaker. If sound is not restored to R channel when RR speaker is disconnected, go to next step.
  2. Disconnect Right Door (RD) speaker connector. If sound is restored to R channel when RD speaker is disconnected, replace RD speaker. If sound is not restored to R channel when RD speaker is disconnected, go to next step.
  3. Disconnect Instrument Panel (IP) speaker connector. If sound is restored to R channel when IP speaker is disconnected, replace IP speaker. If sound is not restored to R channel when IP speaker is disconnected, go to next step.
  4. Turn ignition off. Gain access to back of radio and disconnect radio Black connector. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, check resistance of radio Black connector terminal No. 5 (Violet wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Violet wire. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, go to next step.
  5. Check resistance of radio Black connector terminal No. 3 (Dark Blue/White wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Dark Blue/White wire. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, go to next step.
  6. Check resistance of radio Black connector terminal No. 7 (Dark Blue/Orange wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Dark Blue/Orange wire. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, go to next step.
  7. Disconnect radio Gray connector. Check resistance of radio Gray connector terminal No. 3 (Dark Blue/Red wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Dark Blue/Red wire. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace radio.
