Test 86D - Shorted Right (R) Channel
CAUTION:
Always turn ignition off prior to disconnecting any module connector.
NOTE:
For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION in this article. For appropriate wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS section at the end of this article. Perform TEST VER-1B after each repair.
NOTE:
Radio must remain on during this test.
- Turn radio on. Disconnect Right Rear (RR) speaker connector. If sound is restored to R channel when RR speaker connector is disconnected, replace RR speaker. If sound is not restored to R channel when RR speaker is disconnected, go to next step.
- Disconnect Right Door (RD) speaker connector. If sound is restored to R channel when RD speaker is disconnected, replace RD speaker. If sound is not restored to R channel when RD speaker is disconnected, go to next step.
- Disconnect Instrument Panel (IP) speaker connector. If sound is restored to R channel when IP speaker is disconnected, replace IP speaker. If sound is not restored to R channel when IP speaker is disconnected, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Gain access to back of radio and disconnect radio Black connector. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, check resistance of radio Black connector terminal No. 5 (Violet wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Violet wire. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, go to next step.
- Check resistance of radio Black connector terminal No. 3 (Dark Blue/White wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Dark Blue/White wire. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, go to next step.
- Check resistance of radio Black connector terminal No. 7 (Dark Blue/Orange wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Dark Blue/Orange wire. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, go to next step.
- Disconnect radio Gray connector. Check resistance of radio Gray connector terminal No. 3 (Dark Blue/Red wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Dark Blue/Red wire. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace radio.
