Test SC-4A - Checking Cruise Control Brake Switch

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  .
  1. Unplug brake switch connector. Clean and repair as necessary. Set DRB in voltmeter mode. Turn ignition and cruise control on. Probe White/Pink wire at brake switch connector. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is less than 10 volts, go to step 3).
  2. Turn ignition off. Connect a jumper wire between White/Pink wire at brake switch connector and ground. Using DRB, read brake switch input status. If "RELEASED" is displayed, replace brake switch. Perform TEST VER-4A  . If "RELEASED" is not displayed, repair open in ground circuit (Black wire) between brake switch connector and ground.
  3. If voltage is less than 10 volts, turn ignition off. Unplug Powertrain Control Module (PCM) connector. Inspect connector. Clean and repair as necessary. Perform TEST VER-4A  . Using DRB in ohmmeter mode, probe PCM connector terminal No. 29 (White/Pink wire on Cherokee or Brown wire on Grand Cherokee). If resistance is more than 5.0 ohms, replace PCM. Perform TEST VER-4A  .
  4. If resistance is less than 5.0 ohms, repair short in White/Pink wire on Cherokee or Brown wire on Grand Cherokee between PCM connector and brake switch connector. Perform TEST VER-4A  .
