Description & Operation
All models use collapsible steering columns. All columns have integral ignition switch and locking device. Optional tilt wheel is available with both A/T and M/T models. Transmission shift linkage is integral on all models except those with floor shift. See Figure and Fig. Figure.
Grand Cherokee models are equipped with driver-side air bag. Steering column on Grand Cherokee models is serviced only as an assembly, except for steering wheel, switches and wiring.
WARNING:
On models with Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), air bag system MUST be disabled before servicing ANY steering column component. Disabling system will prevent accidental air bag deployment, resulting in possible serious injury or property damage.
