Rear Wheel Speed Sensor: Installation

  1. If original wheel speed sensor is being installed, go to step 3). If a NEW wheel speed sensor is being installed, position wheel speed sensor until cardboard spacer contacts tone wheel.
  2. Use Loctite on wheel speed sensor mounting bolt. Tighten the wheel speed sensor mounting bolt to specification. Refer to the TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  table. Spin rear axle by hand until cardboard spacer is peeled from sensor face. Air gap adjustment should be correct. Using a brass feeler gauge, check air gap adjustment. Air gap should be .043" (1.1 mm). If air gap is not correct, adjust as necessary. Go to step 4).
  3. Remove any remaining pieces of cardboard from sensor face. Install wheel speed sensor. Using a brass feeler gauge, adjust air gap. Air gap should be .043" (1.1 mm). Use Loctite on wheel speed sensor mounting bolt. Tighten wheel speed sensor mounting bolt to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  table.
  4. Remove all kinks and twists from wheel speed sensor wire harness. Ensure wheel speed sensor wire harness is installed in clips on brake lines. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure.
