Ignition Coil Test

  1. Check ignition coil for carbon tracking, oil leaks, or other damage. Replace coil if necessary. If coil is okay, go to next step.
  2. Disconnect wiring and coil tower secondary wire from ignition coil terminals. Connect ohmmeter between coil negative (-) and positive (+) terminals. If coil resistance is 1.11-1.25 ohms at 75°F (24°C), go to next step. If coil resistance is incorrect, replace ignition coil.
  3. Connect an ohmmeter between the coil tower and ignition coil negative (-) terminal. If coil resistance is 7700-9300 ohms at 75°F (24°C), ignition coil is okay. If coil resistance is incorrect, replace ignition coil.
