Distributor R & I (4.2L & 5.9L): Reassembly

Insert Allen wrench into vacuum hose tube of original vacuum advance mechanism. Count number of clockwise turns necessary to bottom out adjusting screw. Turn replacement mechanism adjusting screw clockwise to bottom, then back off counterclockwise the same number of turns counted earlier.
Install vacuum advance mechanism on distributor housing. Ensure that link is engaged on pin of pick-up coil. Install retaining screws. Tighten base plate screws, if loosened. Position pick-up coil assembly into distributor housing. Install washers and retainer onto pivot pin to secure pick-up coil assembly to base plate.
Position wiring harness in slot in distributor housing. Install 2 pick-up coil plate screws and tighten. Using hand pressure, install trigger wheel on shaft with long portion of teeth up. See Figure . When trigger wheel and slot in shaft are properly aligned, use a drift and hammer to tap pin into locating groove in trigger wheel and shaft. Support shaft while installing trigger wheel pin. Install rotor.
