Diagnosis - Aw-4: Operation: Inputs
The sensors and switches include the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS), speed sensor, neutral safety switch, and brake pedal application switch.
- The TPS determines throttle position and signals the TCU to control shift points and converter lock-up.
- The speed sensor signals are transmitted to the TCU each time the rotor and magnet complete one revolution. See Fig 1 .
- The neutral safety switch signals shift linkage and manual valve body position to the TCU through the interconnecting harness. The switch allows engine starting only in Park or Neutral.
- The brake application switch releases the lock-up clutch in the torque converter when brakes are applied. It signals the TCU when the pedal is pressed or released.
