Upshift Indicator Light Out

  1. Check upshift light switch circuit with ignition on and engine off. Connect jumper wire from ALDL terminal D2-1 to ground. If indicator light is off, proceed to next upshift light switch test. If light is on, test ECU for malfunction. See appropriate article in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE Section.
  2. Check upshift light switch with ignition on and engine off, transmission in 1st gear, and jumper wire removed. Using DVOM, measure voltage at upshift switch connector terminal "A". See Figure . If battery voltage is not present, repair open in wire from printed circuit.
  3. Using DVOM, measure voltage at upshift switch connector terminal "B". If battery voltage is not present, replace switch. If battery voltage is present, repair open in circuit to ECU terminal No. 18.
