Preliminary Inspection

NOTE: 2.5L & 4.0L vehicles with computerized engine controls should be tested for stored computer codes. Codes and related problems must be repaired before performing cruise control diagnosis and repair. For additional information on 2.5L & 4.0L vehicles, see appropriate G - TEST W/CODES article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE section. For additional information on 4.2L vehicles, see appropriate I - SYSTEM/ COMPONENT TESTS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE section.

Ensure cruise control wire harness is properly connected to control module before starting diagnosis or repair procedure. Connection is affected when Cruise Command System Tester (A-M PC-1-R) is used. Poor connection at this point may be misdiagnosed as control module malfunction.

Brake light and clutch switches should be adjusted properly. Ensure all vacuum lines are correctly routed and tightly connected. Ensure all related fuses have power when ignition switch is in RUN position.
