Alternate Procedure

  1. Set parking brake and place transmission in Neutral. Start engine and run at idle to obtain normal operating temperature. Turn ignition off and connect timing light using inductive pick-up or adapter. Do not puncture spark plug wire.
  2. Disconnect and plug 4" Hg vacuum switch hose (Red and Black wires connected to switch). Disconnect knock sensor wire connector. Using a jumper wire, ground knock sensor wire connector to engine block. Start engine.
  3. With engine at idle speed, check timing. If required, adjust timing to specification.
