SYMPTOM
000101 Diagnostic Concerns
This SSM is to re-enforce that the IDS Diagnostic Software is only designed to operate on the Windows Operating System- XP Professional with Service Pack 2 and Internet Explorer v6.0 loaded. Any deviation from this may cause a conflict that will affect the operation of your IDS Diagnostic system. These versions of software were supplied on the CF18-CF19 Panasonic Toughbook models purchased through SPX.
Current Requirements
- Operating System - Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2 ONLY
Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2 is the ONLY Operating System that has gone through compatibility testing with IDS Diagnostic Software. This is required as the Operating System organizes data storage on the hard disc differently. IDS should only be run under the NTFS file system.
- Web Browser - Internet Explorer v6.0.
CONTENT
Many areas of IDS use functionality integrated within the Internet Explorer application, and the installation of alternate versions of Microsoft or other vendors web browsers can easily create conflicts of settings and changes that may prevent critical elements of IDS from functioning correctly. This risk will only increase as we rely more and more on the internet connections and operations on IDS that use this technology.
- Completely avoid the installation of any non JLR authorized software on any IDS.
Jaguar Land Rover is specifically aware that the application "AOL" is known to override and control many critical internet connection settings which will cause a conflict.
Future
Jaguar Land Rover is currently testing IDS software compatibility with Windows Vista and Internet Explorer v7.0 Until such time as these applications are approved they should not be used.
