Bleeding Procedure

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 22 other vehicles, including the 2003 Jaguar XJR, 2003 Jaguar XJ8, 2003 Jaguar XJ, 2002 Jaguar XKR, and 2002 Jaguar XK8. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Raise and support vehicle. Open engine compartment hood and fit paint protection covers to fenders.
  2. Fill fluid reservoir to the MAX (maximum) mark.
  3. Prepare left front brake caliper for bleeding. Remove dust cap and connect a bleed hose and fluid container to bleed nipple.
  4. Bleed brakes by:
    • Applying pressure to brake pedal.
    • Opening the bleed nipple (outside bleed nipple on Brembo brake systems).
    • Fully depressing the brake pedal.
    • Closing the bleed nipple, and releasing the brake pedal.
    • Wait 2 seconds to allow system to prime.
    • Repeat until air-free brake fluid is expelled from caliper. On Brembo brake systems, repeat for inside bleed nipple before proceeding to next caliper location.
  5. Ensuring that fluid level in master cylinder reservoir does not fall below the MIN mark, repeat procedure for each brake caliper in proper sequence. See BRAKE BLEEDING SEQUENCE  table. Tighten bleed nipples to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  6. Ensure that brake fluid level is at the MAX mark on reservoir and fit cap. Start the engine and check for correct brake pedal travel and pressure. Apply the brakes and check the system for leaks. Top off brake fluid as necessary, bringing fluid level to the MAX mark.
