Preliminary Inspection
NOTE:
Central junction fuse box may also be referred to as passenger junction fuse box.
Verify customer complaint by operating suspected system. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical and electrical damage. For mechanical damage, check for the following:
- Starter motor.
- Flywheel Ring Gear.
- Engine Seized.
For electrical damage, check for the following:
- Battery.
- Clutch pedal safety switch (manual transmissions only).
- Engine Control Module (ECM)
- For 2002-03 models, fuses No. 28 (15A) and No. 29 (30A) in the front power distribution fuse box and fuse No. 92 (10A) in the central junction fuse box. See FUSES & CIRCUIT BREAKERS article in ELECTRICAL.
- For 2004-05 models, fuse No. 34 (30A) in the front power distribution fuse box and fuses No. 31 (15A) and No. 26 (10A) in the passenger junction fuse box. See FUSES & CIRCUIT BREAKERS article in ELECTRICAL.
- Starter motor.
- Starter relay.
- Transmission range sensor (automatic transmissions only).
- Inspect for loose or corroded connection, damaged wiring harnesses and/or switches. Check for broken or partially broken wires inside insulation, which could cause system malfunction but prove good in a continuity/voltage check with system disconnected.
- Ensure any aftermarket electronic equipment is properly installed.
If a fault is found, repair as necessary. If no fault is found during a preliminary inspection, see SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM for additional information.
