Diagnostic Test Procedure

  1. Check CMP sensor for correct installation. Is CMP sensor correctly installed? If yes, go to next step. If no, install CMP sensor correctly.
  2. Remove CMP sensor and inspect for foreign debris. Is CMP sensor free of foreign debris? If yes, go to next step. If no, clean CMP sensor and wheel. Install CMP sensor.
  3. Disconnect negative battery cable. Disconnect the CMP sensor connector. Disconnect ECM connector EM83. Measure resistance between ECM harness connector EM83 terminal No. 18 and CMP sensor harness connector terminal No. 2. Is resistance greater than 5 ohms? If yes, repair high resistance between ECM harness connector EM83 terminal No. 18 and CMP sensor harness connector terminal No. 2. If no, go to next step.
  4. Reconnect negative battery cable. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ECM harness connector EM83 terminal No. 18 and ground. Is voltage greater than 6 volts? If yes, repair short to voltage. If no, go to next step.
  5. Turn ignition off. Measure resistance between CMP sensor harness connector terminal No. 2 and ground. Is resistance less than 10,000 ohms? If yes, repair short to ground. If no, install a new CMP sensor.
