Diagnostic Test Procedure
- Ensure fuel injector harness connectors are connected to correct fuel injectors. Disconnect appropriate fuel injector harness connector. Measure fuel injector resistance. Is resistance 12-16 ohms? If yes, go to next step. If no, replace fuel injector.
- Measure resistance between appropriate fuel injector terminal No. 1 and fuel injector body, then between fuel injector terminal No. 2 and fuel injector body. Is resistance more than 10 megohms? If yes, go to next step. If no, replace fuel injector.
- Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and appropriate fuel injector harness connector terminal No. 2. Is battery voltage present? If yes, go to step next step. If no, repair circuit between appropriate fuel injector harness connector terminal No. 2 and battery.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect negative battery cable. Disconnect the ECM connector EM84. Measure resistance between the appropriate fuel injector harness connector and ECM harness connector as follows:
- Fuel injector No. 1-A harness connector terminal No. 1 and ECM harness connector EM84 terminal No. 2.
- Fuel injector No. 2-B harness connector terminal No. 1 and ECM harness connector EM84 terminal No. 6.
- Fuel injector No. 2-A harness connector terminal No. 1 and ECM harness connector EM84 terminal No. 21.
- Fuel injector No. 2-B harness connector terminal No. 1 and ECM harness connector EM84 terminal No. 4.
- Fuel injector No. 3-A harness connector terminal No. 1 and ECM harness connector EM84 terminal No. 14.
- Fuel injector No. 3-B harness connector terminal No. 1 and ECM harness connector EM84 terminal No. 3.
- Fuel injector No. 4-A harness connector terminal No. 1 and ECM harness connector EM84 terminal No. 5.
- Fuel injector No. 4-B harness connector terminal No. 1 and ECM harness connector EM84 terminal No. 13.
Is resistance greater than 5 ohms? If yes, repair the circuit between the appropriate fuel injector harness connector pin 1 and ECM harness connector EM84. If no, go to next step.
- Reconnect negative battery cable. Measure voltage between the appropriate fuel injector harness connector, terminal No. 1 and ground. Is voltage greater than 1 volt? If yes, repair short to voltage. If no, go to next step.
- Measure resistance between the appropriate fuel injector harness connector terminal No. 1 and ground. Is resistance less than 10,000 ohms? If yes, repair short to ground as necessary. If no, clear DTC(s) and test system for normal operation. If DTC resets, possible ECM failure.
NOTE:
If battery voltage does not exist at all fuel injector harness connectors, check Engine Management System (EMS) fuse F5 and fuel injection main relay located in engine compartment, in control module enclosure.
