Differential Axle Identification Tag

The axle identification tag is the official differential identifier. DO NOT damage or dispose of the tag. Always reinstall tag after removing it. The assembly plant code (located at top left) denotes a particular differential design. Axle ratio is located at bottom left. Ring gear diameter in inches is located in the bottom middle. The build year, month and day code is located at bottom right. The plant code will not change as long as that particular differential never undergoes an external design change. If an internal design change takes place during differential production life and the internal change affects parts interchangeability, a dash and numerical suffix is added to the plant code. This means that as an assembly both differentials are interchangeable, but internally they are different. Each requires different internal parts at the time of repair.
