Diagnostic Test Procedure
- Disconnect negative battery cable. Disconnect ECM connector EM81. Disconnect the radiator fan control relay module connector. Measure resistance between ECM harness connector EM81 terminal No. 4 and radiator fan control relay module harness connector terminal No. 7. Is resistance greater than 5 ohms? If yes, repair high resistance between ECM harness connector EM81 terminal No. 4 and radiator fan control relay module harness connector terminal No. 7. If no, go to next step.
- Reconnect negative battery cable. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ECM harness connector EM81 terminal No. 4 and ground. Is voltage greater than 1 volt? If yes, repair short to voltage. If no, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Measure resistance between ECM harness connector EM81 terminal No. 4 and ground. Is resistance less than 10,000 ohms? If yes, repair short to ground. If no, go to next step.
- Reconnect ECM connector EM81. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between radiator fan control relay module harness connector terminal No. 8 ground. Is voltage greater than 10 volts? If yes, ensure DTCs P0116-P0118 or P0125 are not set. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS , if necessary. If listed DTCs are not present, replace radiator fan control relay module. If no, repair the circuit between the radiator fan relay control module and battery as necessary. This circuit includes the EMS fuse box, (fuse No. 12 on XK Series and fuse No. 14 on XJ Series) and the EMS relay.
