DTC P0442: EVAP Control System Leak Detected (XJ Series)

  1. Check fuel cap for leak or improper installation. Check EVAP canister, purge valve and purge line for blockage or leak. Repair as necessary and retest system. If no problems are found, go to next step.
  2. Disconnect purge valve harness connector, located in engine compartment, on left side of firewall. Measure resistance between purge valve terminals No. 1 and 2. If resistance is 25-40 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not 25-40 ohms, replace purge valve.
  3. Disconnect ECM harness connectors EM15 and EM10. Connect jumper wire between ECM harness connector EM10 terminals No. 16 (Purple/Pink wire) and No. 23 (Black/Pink wire). See Figure. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between purge valve harness connector terminal No. 1 (White/Purple wire) and ECM harness connector EM10 terminal No. 22 (Black wire). If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open or short in power supply circuit. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article.
  4. Turn ignition off. Check continuity of Purple/Brown wire between purge valve harness connector terminal No. 2 and ECM harness connector EM15 terminal No. 3. If continuity exists, system is okay. If continuity does not exist, go to step  4 under DTC P0444 & P0445: EVAP CONTROL SYSTEM PURGE VALVE (XJ SERIES) .
