Air Injection System
Air injection system is equipped with an electric air pump. Air pump is a regenerative turbine type pump that is permanently lubricated and requires no periodic maintenance. The pump draws air from the air cleaner and pumps it under pressure to the check valve. Check valve is mounted near exhaust manifold. Check valve prevents exhaust gas from blowing back into the air pump.
Battery voltage to air pump is supplied through the air pump relay. Relay is controlled by ECM. Air pump operation is only possible when coolant temperature is 61°F (16°C) or less. System will run for 15 seconds at engine start-up only or until coolant reaches 61°F (16°C). Maximum air pump running time is 4 minutes.
