Accessing Abs Codes

  1. Ensure ignition is off. Access 4-pin diagnostic connector located in rear wheel arch, next to ABS ECU. Connect jumper wire between Black wire terminal and Brown/Pink wire terminal in diagnostic connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Observe pulses of ANTI-LOCK warning light.
  2. Codes will be given in 2-digit numbers. After ignition is on for 6 seconds, first digit of code will be displayed followed by a short pause, and then second digit of code will be displayed. There will be a 6.5-second pause between codes. ECU is capable of displaying only one fault at a time. For example, Code 21 may be displayed but Code 22 will not display. ECU will show next fault; for example, Code 31 or greater. ANTI-LOCK light will illuminate without flashing when display of codes is complete.
  3. After completing necessary repairs, erase ABS codes. See ERASING ABS CODES. After erasing ABS codes, go to step 1) and access ABS codes to record any new or persistent faults.
  4. ABS codes beginning with 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 are considered high priority codes. High priority codes may affect vehicle braking performance and should be repaired immediately. ABS codes beginning with 7 are considered low priority codes. Low priority codes may or may not affect vehicle braking performance. See HIGH PRIORITY ABS CODES  or LOW PRIORITY ABS CODES.
NOTE: If repairs fail to remedy problem, replace ABS ECU. If ANTI-LOCK light stays on continuously without ABS codes being displayed, failure is probably in ABS ECU. Check power supply to ABS ECU before replacing ABS ECU.
