Alternator Output

  1. Disconnect B+ lead from battery terminal. Connect an ammeter between disconnected lead and alternator B+ terminal. Refer to Fig 1.
  2. Switch on all loads (except wipers) for one minute to discharge battery. Start and run engine at normal charging speed. Ammeter should indicate maximum output (115 amps).
  3. If low output is obtained, continue with tests. If no output is obtained, remove for bench testing of disassembled alternator (continuity and resistance of rotor and stator).
