Intake Air Temperature Sensor (IATS)

The IATS is located in inlet air elbow, between throttle body and mass airflow sensor. Sensor is a Negative Thermal Coefficient (NTC) thermistor with a shrouded bead for fast response to changing air temperatures. The IATS provides an air temperature signal to the ECM. Its main purpose is to control ignition retard functions during hot/high ambient operation. The retard function allows ignition to be calibrated for best performance and economy, with detonation (engine knock).
