Valve Timing

Remove distributor cap. Attach a dial indicator to cylinder head stud. Rotate crankshaft to set No. 1 piston (right bank) to TDC of compression stroke. If oil pan is installed align timing marks on front crankshaft damper at TDC (0 degrees). The distributor rotor will point at approximately 5 degrees from pick-up module. Turn camshaft until Timing Gauge (C 3993) can be inserted in slot in camshaft front flange. See Figure . Repeat procedure on left bank.
