Date: July, 1986
No: J86/27
Section: ELECTRICAL
Symptom: Trip Computer Errors
A number of Technical Service Bulletins on the subject of trip computer fault checking have been issued. There are still a large number of no fault found units being returned. We are, therefore, reminding all personnel of the importance of carrying out functional checks on any trip computer suspected of incorrect operation.
Particular attention must be paid to the plug connections of the computer and the interface unit, as poor connections can cause operating faults. The position of the Miles/Kilometer switch should not be overlooked.
Another area of importance is the 2-amp memory fuse, #7 in the XJ6, and a 2-amp line fuse adjacent to the trip computer in the XJ-S. The trip computer will perform normally with a defective memory fuse, however, the memory part of the unit will not be functional.
The trip computer test box, P/N YWB 501, is capable of proving all areas of operation and must be used to test all units being returned for warranty.
