Oil Pressure Test

NOTE: Before making pressure test, be certain that fluid level and condition, and control linkage adjustments have been checked and corrected as necessary. Connect a tachometer to engine and a pressure gauge to main pressure take-off point on rear of transmission. See Fig 1 .
  1. Apply service and parking brake, place transmission selector lever in "D" position, and with engine at idle (750 RPM), check main pressure. Main pressure should be 60-75 psi (4.2-5.3 kg/cm2 ).
  2. Increase engine speed to 1200 RPM. Check pressure gauge. Pressure should be 85-95 psi (5.9-6.7 kg/cm2 ).
  3. If pressures are not within specified limits, first check adjustment of transmission throttle cable. See the appropriate article in AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SERVICING  Section.
