Installation Procedure
- Install the outer tie rods. Refer to Rack and Pinion Outer Tie Rod End Replacement .
- Install the power steering gear to the vehicle.
- Install the power steering gear mounting bolts.
Tighten: Tighten the power steering gear mounting bolts to 110 N.m (81 lb ft).
- Remove the support from the power steering gear.
- Install the power steering hose assembly to the power steering gear.
- Install the power steering hose assembly to the power steering gear retaining bolt.
Tighten: Tighten the power steering hose assembly to power steering gear retaining bolt to 12 N.m (106 lb in).
- Connect the lower intermediate shaft to the power steering gear. Refer to Lower Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement .
- Install the steering gear crossmember. Refer to Front Steering Gear Crossmember Replacement .
- Connect the outer tie rods to the steering knuckles.
- Install the new outer tie rod retaining nuts.
Tighten: Tighten the outer tie rods retaining nuts to 57 N.m (42 lb ft).
- Install the tires and wheels. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
- Remove the drain pan from under the vehicle.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
- It is not necessary to adjust the front toe unless a tie rod end or the steering gear has been replaced. Refer to Front Toe Adjustment .
- Lower the vehicle.
