Transmission Assembly: Installation

  1. Install rear mounting rubber and bracket on the transmission. (4x2)

  2. Install rear mounting rubber on the transmission. (4x4)
  3. Slowly raise transmission jack until front of the transmission is aligned with rear of the engine. Attach the transmission to the engine.
  4. Tighten engine transmission bolts as shown in Fig 2 .

  5. Align the flex plate torque converter bolt boss with flex plate hole by turning the torque converter. Install flex plate torque converter bolts (6 pieces) by turning the crankshaft.
    1. Torque:  54 N.m (40 lb ft)
    NOTE: Do not reuse the flex plate torque converter bolt.

  6. Install under covers to the transmission and engine.
    1. Torque:  8 N.m (69 lb in)
  7. Install starter.
    1. Torque:  40 N.m (30 lb ft)
  8. Install filler tube and insert oil level gage.
    1. Torque:  13 N.m (113 lb in)
  9. Install select cable by connecting inner cable to select lever and installing outer cable with bracket.

  10. Connect transmission oil cooler pipes to A/T.
    1. Torque:  44 N.m (33 lb ft)
  11. Install oil cooler pipe clamp and bracket to the converter housing.

  12. Tighten oil cooler pipe clamp bolt at the engine mount side.
  13. Install transmission crossmember.
    1. Torque:  76 N.m (56 lb ft)
  14. Install rear mount nuts.
    1. Torque  : 50 N.m (37 lb ft)

  15. Install transfer case assembly and tighten transmission transfer bolts as shown in Fig 8 .

  16. Install harness heat protector.
    1. Torque  : 6 N.m (52 lb in)

  17. Connect transmission and ECGI harness connector and clip.

    Connector: output revolution sensor, input revolution sensor, transmission wire, neutral start switch (mode switch), H-L neutral switch (4x4), oil temperature sensor, 4WD switch (4x4), motor actuator (4x4) and car speed sensor.

  18. Connect fuel pipe bracket to transmission side.

  19. Install fuel pipe heat protector and clip.
  20. Tighten front exhaust pipe nuts.
    1. Torque:  67 N.m (49 lb ft)

  21. Install front propeller shaft (4x4) and rear propeller shaft.
    1. Torque:  63 N.m (46 lb ft)
  22. Connect battery ground cable.
