Removal Procedure
CAUTION:
Before removing the fuel injectors, be absolutely sure to eliminate the fuel pressure in the fuel rail. To do this, remove the pump relay and start the engine. Wait for the engine to stall.
NOTE:
- Use care when removing the fuel rail assembly in order to prevent damage to the injector electrical connector terminals and the injector spray tips.
- Fittings should be capped and holes plugged during servicing to prevent dirt and other contaminants from entering open lines and passages.
Before removal, the fuel rail assembly may be cleaned with a spray type engine cleaner. Follow the spray package instructions. Do not immerse the fuel rails in liquid cleaning solvent.
- Depressurize the fuel system. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief Procedure .
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Remove the engine cover.
- Disconnect the throttle position sensor electrical connector from throttle body.
- Disconnect the connectors from, solenoid valve.
- Disconnect the vacuum hose on canister VSV and positive crankcase ventilation hose.
- Remove the common chamber. Refer to the COMMON CHAMBER
.
- If an injector becomes separated from the fuel rail, the infector O-ring seals and backup ring must be replaced.
- Drain residual fuel into an approved container.
