The number below refer to the step number in the diagnostic procedures.

   To avoid backprobing VSS and possibly damaging a seal or terminal, VSS can be tested at point where transmission harness connects to engine wiring harness. Power and ground can be applied by jumper wires to VSS through in-line harness connectors located at rear of air cleaner assembly. VSS signal is monitored with a DVOM while turning driveshaft or rear wheels.
