Diagnostic Procedure
- Perform ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC II SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. After performing OBD-II system check, go to next step.
- Turn ignition on. Observe CRUISE MAIN indicator on instrument cluster. If indicator is illuminated, go to next step. If indicator is not illuminated, go to step 4.
- Press cruise control main switch. If CRUISE MAIN indicator turns off, check for intermittent problem. See DIAGNOSTIC AIDS . If CRUISE MAIN indicator does not turn off, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM Red 80-pin harness connector E-22. PCM is located at right rear of engine compartment. Disconnect cruise control main switch 4-pin harness connector. Cruise control switch is located in center console. For removal procedure, go to CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEMS article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. Check for open in Pink/Black wire between cruise control switch and PCM. See WIRING DIAGRAMS in CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEMS article. If problem is found, go to next step. If no problem is found, go to step 6.
- Repair open in Pink/Black wire between cruise control switch and PCM. After repair is complete, see VERIFYING VEHICLE REPAIR under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Check cruise control main switch operation. See CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEMS article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. If problem is found, go to next step. If no problem is found, go to step 8.
- Repair or replace cruise control main switch. After repair is complete, see VERIFYING VEHICLE REPAIR under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Replace and reprogram PCM. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE REPLACEMENT under POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE. Use scan tool to clear DTC and verify repair.
