Steering System Flushing
- Raise and support vehicle front end until wheels are free to turn.
- Remove fluid return line at pump inlet connector and plug connector port on pump. Position line toward a large container to catch draining fluid.
- While running engine at idle, fill reservoir with new power steering fluid. Turn steering wheel in both directions. Do not contact or hold steering wheel to wheel stops. This will cause pump to go to pressure relief mode, which may cause a sudden fluid overflow at reservoir.
- Install all lines and hoses. Fill system with power steering fluid and bleed system, see BLEEDING POWER STEERING SYSTEM .
- Operate engine for about 15 minutes. Remove pump return line at pump inlet and plug connection on pump. While filling reservoir, check draining fluid for contamination. If foreign material is still evident, replace all lines, disassemble and clean or replace power steering system components. Do not re-use any drained power steering fluid.
