Diagnostic Procedures
- Perform On-Board Diagnostic II (OBD-II) system check. See
SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. Go to next step.NOTE: Diagnose any DTCs set (except for DTCs P1133 or P1134), before proceeding.
- Start engine and allow it to reach operating temperature. Operate vehicle within conditions required to set DTC. Using scan tool, read specified DTC. If scan tool displays DTC P0133 FAILED THIS IGN, go to next step. If scan tool does not display DTC P0133 FAILED THIS IGN, see DIAGNOSTIC AIDS .
- If scan tool also displays DTC P1133 and/or P1134 FAILED THIS IGN, go to step 8. If scan tool does not display these DTCs, go to next step.
- Visually inspect exhaust system for leaks near front HO2S. If leaks are found, repair as necessary and return to step 2. If no leaks are found, go to next step.
- Visually inspect front HO2S for secure installation, or corrosion on terminals. Check terminal tension at front HO2S and PCM. Check for damaged wiring. If any problems are found, go to step 9. If no problem is found, go to next step.
- Disconnect front HO2S connector. Turn ignition on. Using a DVOM, measure voltage at HO2S harness connector between high signal circuit (White wire) and ground, and between low signal circuit (Red wire) and ground. If both readings are 3-4 volts, go to next step. If readings are not as specified, go to step 10.
- Connect a jumper wire between front HO2S harness connector high signal (White wire) and low signal (Red wire) terminals and ground. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, read HO2S-1 voltage. If reading is less than 10 mV and immediately returns to 450 mV when jumper wire is removed, go to step 12. If voltage is not as specified, go to step 13.
- Replace affected HO2S. Retest system.NOTE: Before replacing HO2S, correct cause of HO2S contamination.
- Repair condition as necessary. Retest system.
- Inspect PCM connections and terminals for damage. Repair as necessary. Retest system. If PCM connections and terminals are in good condition, go to next step.
- Repair open, short or grounded front HO2S signal circuit. Retest system.
- Replace front HO2S. Retest system.
- Replace and reprogram PCM using required equipment. See PROGRAMMING . Retest system.
