  14. Press and release R/A (Resume/Accel) button on cruise control tester 3 times. Press and release BRAKE button on cruise control tester. If CRUISE ENGAGE LED on cruise control tester turns off and throttle lever closes, go to next step. If LED remains illuminated and/or throttle lever does not close, go to step  36.
  15. Raise and support vehicle so that drive wheels may be rotated. Block one of the drive wheels. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Place gear selector in DRIVE position. Observe VSS LED on cruise control tester while rotating unblocked drive wheel. If VSS LED flashes while drive wheel is being rotated, go to next step. If LED does not flash as described, go to SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - HOMBRE article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
  16. If cruise control module harness connector terminal "H" has a wire installed in it, go to next step. If there is no wire connected to control module harness connector terminal "H", go to step  20.
  17. Following manufacturer's instructions, connect Tech II scan tool. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Select POWERTRAIN SPECIAL FUNCTIONS, then OUTPUT CONTROLS for CRUISE INHIBIT. While observing INHIBIT ENABLE LED on cruise control tester, command scan tool to enable cruise control. If INHIBIT ENABLE LED dimmed, go to next step. If LED did not dim, go to step  33.
  18. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect cruise control tester and reconnect wiring harness to cruise control module. Road test vehicle at speeds greater than 25 MPH. Operate cruise control system. Using scan tool. observe CRUISE INHIBIT status. If scan tool displays ENABLED, go to next step. If scan tool does not display ENABLED, go to ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC II (OBD-II) SYSTEM CHECK in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
  19. If cruise control system operates normally, problem is intermittent. Go back to step  1 to perform preliminary checks. If cruise control system does not operate normally, go to step  36.
  20. Reconnect all components. Road test vehicle at greater than 25 MPH. Operate cruise control system. If cruise control system operates normally, problem is intermittent. Go back to step  1 to perform preliminary checks. If cruise control system does not operate normally, go to step  36.
