Charging System Check
- Turn ignition on. Charge indicator should stay on and voltmeter should read 12-14 volts. If charge indicator does not illuminate, go to CHARGE INDICATOR LIGHT NEVER ON under SYSTEM TESTS. If voltmeter does not read 12-14 volts, go to VOLTMETER DISPLAYING HIGH OR LOW under SYSTEM TESTS.
- Start engine. If voltmeter reads between 13-16 volts and charge indicator goes off, go to next step. If charge indicator stays on, go to CHARGE INDICATOR LIGHT ALWAYS ON under SYSTEM TESTS. If voltmeter does not read 13-16 volts, go to VOLTMETER DISPLAYING HIGH OR LOW under SYSTEM TESTS.
- Allow engine to idle while observing voltmeter and charge indicator. If voltmeter reads between 13-16 volts and charge indicator goes off, go to next step. If operation is not as specified, go to GENERATOR NOT OPERATING PROPERLY under SYSTEM TESTS.
- Turn on headlights, rear defogger and blower motor. Raise engine speed to 2500 RPM. If charging system and indicator light are operating properly, check is complete. If charge indicator illuminates and/or voltmeter does not read 13-16 volts, go to GENERATOR NOT OPERATING PROPERLY under SYSTEM TESTS.
