Section 7 (A/C-Heater System): Operation: Notes
When A/C is turned on, compressor clutch engages the clutch plate, actuating the compressor. Low pressure refrigerant vapor from evaporator is drawn into compressor and is compressed into high pressure, high temperature vapor.
The vapor is pumped to the condenser, where outside air absorbs heat from high temperature vapor. As vapor cools, it changes into a high pressure liquid. The high pressure liquid is then passed to the expansion valve.
The restriction in the expansion valve converts the high pressure liquid into a low pressure liquid, which then enters the evaporator. Because the liquid refrigerant is now colder than vehicle interior air, the air passing through the evaporator coils releases heat to the cooler liquid refrigerant. As the refrigerant warms, it boils into gas and is drawn into the compressor to repeat the cycle.
